Restore Your Smile with Veneers

Veneers are one of the most versatile cosmetic dentistry procedures, and can be used to treat almost any cosmetic issue including stains, chips, gaps, and slightly-crooked teeth.

The veneer placement process is non-invasive, and requires minimal enamel removal

With proper care, veneers can easily last 15+ years, providing long-lasting results

Veneers are strong, durable, and stain-resistant, and require no special care beyond regular brushing, flossing, and six-month oral exams and teeth cleaning at Parkside Dental in Murphy

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment consisting of very thin, tooth-shaped dental prostheses. Veneers are designed to fit over your teeth, and replace the front chewing surface with a bright, beautiful porcelain material, restoring your smile.

Porcelain veneers are widely considered to be the best option for cosmetic dental treatment. They are extremely versatile, and can cover up almost any cosmetic imperfection, and are made of a durable material that can last for a very long time with proper care.

What Can I Expect from the Veneer Placement Process?

The veneer placement process at Parkside Dental typically takes two appointments. After you’ve been approved for veneers by Dr. Jean or Dr. Jason Larsen, you’ll come in for your first appointment.

Your mouth will be numbed, and then we will begin trimming each tooth that will receive a veneer. About 0.5mm of enamel must be removed to ensure that the veneers have a perfect fit.

This process is painless, but we can offer sedation to make you feel more comfortable. Then, dental impressions will be taken of your teeth. These will be sent to an outside lab, where your veneers will be made. You’ll get a set of temporary veneers to protect your teeth, and you’ll be sent home.

In 2-3 weeks, your completed veneers will arrive at our office. Then, Dr. Jason or Dr. Jean Larsen will check them to ensure they fit properly. If everything looks good, they will be bonded into place permanently with dental cement, then buffed and polished to match your surrounding teeth. This completes the procedure.

Are There Aftercare Instructions for Veneers?

Veneers require very little special care. You should brush and floss your veneers just like you would brush your natural teeth, to prevent tooth decay and gum disease from affecting your smile, and you should also see Parkside Dental every six months for an oral exam and teeth cleaning.

Beyond this, you should make sure that you wear a mouthguard whenever you play a contact sport. If you grind your teeth, you should also have a night guard made to prevent you from grinding your veneers, as this can cause cracks and damage.

Finally, you should avoid doing things that could damage your veneers, like biting extremely hard foods (ice, nuts, etc.) with your front teeth. You also should not chew non-food objects, like your fingernails, or use your teeth as tools to help you open bags or packages.

What Are Lumineers? How Are They Different From Veneers?

Lumineers are nearly identical to traditional veneers, with one major exception – they are much thinner. Traditional porcelain veneers are usually about 0.5mm thick. In contrast, Lumineers are only about 0.2mm thick (which is about as thick as a contact lens!)

Since Lumineers are so thin, they can usually be placed onto your teeth without trimming away any enamel. When placing traditional porcelain veneers, Dr. Larsen typically needs to remove some of the natural enamel structure. This is done so that the veneers will not add bulk to your teeth and won’t negatively affect your appearance or your bite.

Lumineers, in contrast, don’t usually require the preparation of your teeth. In rare cases, a minimal amount of enamel will need to be removed, but most patients can have veneers placed onto their teeth without the removal of any natural enamel. That’s why Lumineers are often called “no-prep” or “minimal-prep” veneers.

What are the benefits of Lumineers?

There are a few unique advantages to veneer treatment with Lumineers:

  • You won’t have to spend as much time in the dentist’s chair, and you likely won’t need to have your teeth trimmed during treatment.
  • If you have dental anxiety or just don’t like the idea of dental drills, Lumineers are a good option for you.
  • You won’t need to wear temporary veneers while you wait for permanent prosthetics to be manufactured. Traditional veneers take about 2-3 weeks to manufacture.
  • Lumineers can be removed, in most cases. Unlike traditional veneers, which are not reversible due to the enamel that must be trimmed from your teeth, Lumineers can be removed and the process can be reversed.

Are Lumineers Right for Me?

In most cases, Lumineers are a good option for you as long as you are a good candidate for traditional porcelain veneers. Your mouth must be in good health, and you must be free of any serious dental problems like gum disease and damaged and decayed teeth.

In addition, you must have a relatively healthy bite and tooth position. Lumineers and veneers are not recommended for restoring crooked teeth. If you have major orthodontic problems, you will need to have these addressed before you can get Lumineers or veneers.

Finally, Lumineers may not be the best option for patients with seriously stained teeth. Since they are so much thinner than traditional veneers, they do not cover up stains as effectively. If you have serious stains that won’t respond to treatment with teeth whitening, traditional veneers are likely a better option compared to Lumineers.
